There are however significant differences between the prizes awarded, based on the final placement. The top seed from each region will play against the fourth seed in the opening matches, while the second seed will take on the third from the opposing region.
Both are expected to qualify to the next stage, while the matches between Tempo Strom vs Method and Team Liquid vs Team Freedom will be more difficult to predict.
The stakes are high and the prizes are big enough to provide the needed motivation for participating teams. Furthermore, the team from the winning region will also unlock an extra spot for the upcoming HGC finals.
The event will be streamed live and the casters will broadcast the games in Spanish, Italian, French, German, Russian, Polish and Turkish. Really smart of them, caught me by surprise the first time, thinking "oh well I know who's winning this map since they go to another" and then they didn't :P.
Redeye hosting?! That's awesome, guy has done a great job on the DotA 2 events I've seen him host. So just 3 match ups? I mean sure NA hasn't been performing but the specificity of the previous comment makes it sound worse than it actually is.
I know, but there is both official BR and ES streams ruled by Heroes e-Sports LATAM, which could be used as they already have official casters as well.
Okay, I've got kind of a silly question here: I've been playing HOTS for the past two years, but haven't really gotten into the professional scene until now.
How do I pick a team to root for? I'm European btw. Other than that: go watch some interviews and see who looks likeable to you whether that's from spirit, knowledge, wit or whatever speaks to you.
Of course watching some past VODs is also recommended and possibly the best way. I would say find a couple of players and just root for the teams they're on, my fav pro, glaurung, has switched teams a lot, so i just root for wherever he is.
Every time want to root for a particular team but I end up rooting for the team with the composition I like more. So each game a different one.
Always EU though ;. It is not a silly question, honestly what I would do if I were you is to go to the HGC website heroesofthestorm.
That will give you a better idea of each team's play style so you can pick which team you like the best. At least for the group stages, there was a quick synopsis of the teams.
Also after a series interview with one of the team members. I don't expect that to go away, they are very keen on telling a story.
You'll know who to root for. Go to the Heroes Esports page on Youtube and watch the 3 sets where the EU teams played each other.
Figure out which one has a style you like and root for them. The last CS:GO major used the Swiss format and it's the best system I've ever seen.
I wish it was more popular. I think Swiss Format is used only when there are too many competitors and limited time. A tournament with only 8 teams does not need Swiss Format, and eliminations could be more exciting.
And Swiss Format is bad for live stream. That would make a pretty epic Western Clash though, with something like 6 teams from EU, 6 from NA and 2 each minor region or something like that.
But yes, Swiss format doesn't really make sense for an 8 team tournament. Swiss is great! But it works best for large events with many competitors.
It's effective for small events but less exciting than elim. We know that it will be played on the Lucio patch, but does anyone know if the balance changes they just announced will be there or no?
Zealots When Zealots are good, they are really good. It took them a while to get back into the groove of HGC, taking losses to lower ranked teams.
But once they found their footing, they started to surprise everyone. Handing Dignitas their only loss and taking the win against Fnatic too, the backend of phase one has treated Zealots kindly.
Hopefully this momentum will carry on into the Western Clash as they have Tempo Storm waiting for them in round one. HeroesHearth HeroesHearth are the newest addition to the NA HGC, making their way through the Crucible and have not looked back.
A surprise team to make it to the Western Clash, HeroesHearth have the toughest round one game against Dignitas. Just making it to Katowice alone is a big achievement and now this team can play with nothing to lose.

LOWER BRACKET Match 1: 4 TEAM 8 vs 5 TEAM DIGNITAS As the last remaining NA team, Team 8 had to get through a rematch with Team Dignitas in order to advance to the Lower Bracket finals against Misfits.
Match 2: 1 MISFITS vs 5 TEAM DIGNITAS With a spot in the Grand Finals on the line, this rematch between Misfits and Team Dignitas promised to be a close one.
THE GRAND FINALS 3 FNATIC vs 5 TEAM DIGNITAS Now at the Grand Finals, FNATIC, coming off big wins against Misfits, Tempo Storm and Gale Force eSports, were now the favorites to win the Western Clash because of their impressive record in the tournament.
